Baltimore, MD(OTW)-Desmond Huff, a 6-10 ceter for the Coppin State men's basketball team, is out with a stress fracture in his right leg. Huff was averaging 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He will be out four-to-six weeks.

Norfolk, VA(OTW)-Cordell Maxell put in 14 markers as Norolk State whipped Howard 76-69 Monday Night.

Bowling Green, KY(OTW)-Western Kentucky quarterback Donte Pimpleton rushed for 96 yards and two second quarter touchdowns as Western Kentucky beat Florida A&M 27-0 in round one of the NCAA 1-AA playoffs. Pimpleton scored on two runs of 41 yards in the in a 21-point second period for the Hilltoppers. The winners passed only one time in the game, as they piled up 356 yards on the ground.
FAMU was held to 135 yards of total offense in the game.
The winners controlled the ball for over 42 minutes in the contest.

Baltimore, MD(OTW)-Coppin State's Men's Basketball program has signed their first player from Texas (under Ron "Fang" Mitchell). He is 6-10 forward Henry Colter of Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Austin, Texas. Colter, a forward, led his team to a 33-4 record as junior. He averaged 13 points and eight rebounds a game.

Washington, DC(OTW)-Taurie Rice connected with Jamile Jackosn on a 17-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter as Howard stunned North Carolina A&T 17-16 Saturday.
The Bison held A&T to no touchdowns on offense in the game, despite 101 yards rushing by Aggie tailback Michael Hicks.

Baltimore, MD(OTW)-Coppin State defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 3-0 (15-7, 15-9, 15-2) Thursday night for their first win of the season. Candace Johnson had eight kills, 21 total attacks, seven aces, and seven digs for the victors.

Dover, DE(OTW)-Florida A&M exploded for 28 third quarter points to bury Delaware State 49-21 Saturday. FAMU running back Kelsie Lordeus scored on runs of one and 10 yards in the quarter. Lordeus ran for one other TD and had 121 yards rushing in the game. Rattler quarterback Quin Gray threw for 221 yards.
Hornet quarterback Rashaan Matthews threw scoring passes of 16 yards to Darnerian Mccants and 45 yards to Horsey Albert in the contest.

Baltimore, MD(OTW)-John Secord has been named the assistant athletics director for compliance at Coppin State University. The Keene State College graduate previously served at Towson University as director of compliance and education services for two years.
Former Coppin athletes Robert Carradine, Leticia Madry, and Patrick Sims have been named assistant coaches at their alma mater.
Carradine is an assistant in wrestling, Mabry in volleyball, and Sims in cross-country and track and field.
Kia Mason was also named as assistant director of athletics communicationcs.

The 2000 Amateur Baseball Draft
Bethune-Cookman right-handed pitcher Steve Woodyard was drafted in the fourth round by the Detroit Tigers.
Florida A&M's Reginald Griggs was picked in the 18th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Griggs is a first baseman.

Daytona Beach, FL(OTW)-James Lockwood scored 18 points, giving South Carolina State a critical 74-71 overtime road victory over Bethune-Cookman. The win ties BCC with Norfolk State for the MEAC lead and pulled the Bulldogs to within one game of the lead.
Derricus Lockwood scored a game-high 19 points for the Wildcats.

Baltimore, MD(OTW)-Kiesha Brooks scored 26 points to lead Coppin State past Florida A&M 77-74 Monday night. CSC's Liesha Mitchell had 23 points and eight rebounds. Mitchell became the women's all-time leading scorer at the school, currently with 1,263 points.
Jackie Johnson-Stewart snapped a 74-74 tie with a jumper late in the game, enabling CSC to push to victory.
Tomekia Peterson led Florida A&M with 24 points and nine rebounds. Peterson tied the game at 74 with a three-point play with 43 seconds left.
CSC led 35-30 at the half.

Demetric Reese scored 34 points for UMES.
Baltimore, MD(OTW)-Valder Ned and Freddie Cole scored 14 points each as Bethune-Cookman (10-11, 9-3) beat Coppin State 66-60 Saturday night. The win kept BCC a half a game behind Norfolk State.
Joe Brown led Coppin State (9-14, 9-5) withj 15 points.
In the women's game, Exzavia Cunningham scored 33 points and D'Shawn Watts had 18 points and 16 rebounds, as Bethune-Cookman (10-11-66) beat Coppin State 79-70.

Baltimore, MD(OTW)-Derek Brown has been named permanent head coach of the Coppin State women's basketball program. Brown took over in mid-December when Jennie Hall resigned. He is also an assistant on the men's basketball team.
Brown has guided the CSC women's team toa 7-5 mark since taking over the team.

Orangeburg, SC(OTW)-Hampton blew out to a 46-24 lead and then held off South Carolina State 89-84 Saturday, creating a logjam in the MEAC. Tommy Adams was 9-13 from the field in the game with 28 points as the Pirates picked up the big road win.
James Jones had 23 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Orangeburg, SC(OTW)-Terrence Winston and Darrell Neal scored 14 points each as Norfolk State edged Soutn Carolina State 63-60. It was a big road win for the Spartans, who knocked the Bulldogs out of the outright first place spot in the MEAC.

Greensboro, NC(OTW)-Tarrell Robinson scored 22 points as North Carolina A&T pasted Hampton 76-60 Monday night.
Mackel Purvis scored 13 for Hampton, who shot only 32 percent from the floor in the game.
